Built in a 20ft shipping container, and easy to transport, each kitchen is fitted out with your kitchen essentials. Suitable for a Wide Range of Applications

Our commercial container kitchens have been used in a wide range of applications throughout New Zealand. They are the perfect solution to keep your kitchen functioning while you complete renovations, from short-term projects like reflooring your existing kitchen to long-term solutions for project catering such as on a movie film set.

Check out a recent case study where one of our containers was hired by Set Piece - a leading catering business specialising in the film and TV industry. Based in Australia, they were located in New Zealand and needed help with a temporary commercial kitchen for a filming crew down in Wanaka and reached out to Hostservice where we were more than happy to help.

Our temporary kitchens have also been used in the public sector, including prisons, schools and hospitals where a kitchen is not available to cater for the large numbers of people and a temporary kitchen solution is ideal.

As well as this, our temporary kitchens make catering for your staff easy, whether you’re growing vegetables or on a construction site. The possibilities are endless.

TESTIMONIALS

“I am writing to recommend Tim and the team at Host Services to support you during a kitchen refurbishment or a period of time when your main kitchen will be out of action. Kowhainui kitchen operates from breakfast through to evening meal providing over 100 meals. Kowhainui Home is an aged care facility that have a large kitchen, walk in chiller, freezer and pantry and July this year had the floors refurbished and sealed. This process took 4 weeks allowing for pack down of current kitchen work to be done and then moving back in. We meet with Tim and explained our needs and organized a container kitchen to be delivered to operate out of during this time. He listened to how we currently operated and we worked on a plan with what we needed during the kitchen refurbishment. This included extra hire equipment such as chillers, freezers, trollies and a Hot Box. The container kitchen although smaller than we were used to meant that we could still provide the meals and service to the Home, we made some adaptions but it worked and saved a lot of stress and compromise. We would recommend working with the team at Host Services to see how they can make a major project less stressful and allow you to provide continuity of service.”

“To whom it may concern, In June 2020 Hilton Auckland needed to undertake some repairs in the Properties Main Kitchen. The entire Kitchen needed to be stripped of all fixtures, and fittings. As we were moving down the Covid levels, we still needed to provide Food & Beverage services to our Guests & Team Members. Host Service were recommended through one of our service providers. From the first phone conversation, the entire process was seamless. The Team at Host Service had 2 Container Kitchens based in Auckland, and were able to swap equipment around to meet the needs of our Executive Chef. On the day of delivery Host Service had a Technician attend site, to assist with the commissioning of the equipment. The Container Kitchen, and Equipment were top of the line, very well maintained, and spotless. A full list of after-hour’s service providers was supplied, in the event any of the equipment developed a fault during hire. (It didn’t) Every detail was well thought out, down to the regular delivery of gas bottles. Communication at every level was excellent. I would have no hesitation in recommending Host Service to anyone requiring a Container Kitchen”

“Host Services managed to maintain a high standard of work and overall quality despite the fast pace at which the construction was proceeding. Numerous challenges were encountered during the installation, such as best design for the overall kitchen, placement, complex services design, as well as Covid delays. The solutions focused and best for project attitude displayed by Host Services has resulted in all these challenges being overcome and the kitchen delivered in the shortest amount of time possible. Throughout the process the Host Services Project Manager was incredibly helpful and went the extra mile to ensure successful delivery of the project.”

Frequently Asked Questions

How much space will a container kitchen need?

Each container kitchen is 6m long x 2.4m wide. We need a clearance of at least 1m around each side of the container to allow access to services, and so the doors can open. Ideally, you will need a space of 8m x 5m.

How will my container kitchen be delivered?

Watch our video to find out.

How are they powered?

The container requires 63A3Ph power to run. This must be available onsite either through mains supply or a suitably sized generator for a hire container to be a viable solution. LPG bottles will also be required.

What water and waste Facilities are required?

The container only requires a cold water connection like a garden hose. the container has its own water heating facilities.

For waste, we need a gulley trap to discharge this into. The container has its own integral grease trap, so you don’t need to worry about this. We do have waste water and water supply pumps available if required.

Can I connect the container to my building?

Yes - for longer term hires. On previous hires temporary shelters have been built between the main building and the container. A deck can also be built making it easy to take trolleys in and out. If you want to do this, make sure you have a container location that is close to the main building.

How many people can a container kitchen cater for?

This depends on the type of food you will be serving. As a general rule, one container kitchen will cater for 50-150 people. Supplementary refrigeration like a hire coolroom might be necessary for higher numbers.

Can I hire one for a weekend?

Our containers are designed for longer term hires and our minimum hire charge for 2 weeks reflects this.

I will be catering for a crowd. Can I hire more than one?

Yes! Subject to availability. In the past, we have done a number of hires using multiple kitchens.

Are they available at short notice?

Our containers are often booked up well in advance, so it pays to book in early! However if you are urgently needing one, it’s worth giving us a call in case we have availability.
